TCG Operations Specialist

A collector who sends us a card is trusting a stranger with it. This role is where that trust is kept: from the moment a parcel is opened to the moment a sealed case is back in the post. The laboratory measures the card. You make sure the right card is measured, that it never leaves the chain of custody, and that it goes home in the right case with the right label.
We are establishing a new laboratory for grading Pokémon, Digimon, Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana and One Piece cards, with a grading scale that runs to 1,000 points and a registry that records every card permanently. We are looking for someone to run the operational side of the line: part card specialist, part operations lead, and the sort of person who knows where every card in the building is at any given moment.
What we actually do
An order is placed online. The parcel arrives, is opened on camera, and each card is checked against the order, photographed, barcoded and placed in a numbered locker. It moves to the bench in priority order, is measured and graded, and comes back to be sealed in a tamper-evident case with an NFC chip, inspected, labelled and packed. It goes home with a certificate and a permanent registry record. Every hand-off is logged in Mycroft.AI, the laboratory system that grades each card and tracks it from arrival to dispatch.
The bench is the grader's job. Everything either side of it is yours.
What you'll do
- Receive and book in orders: open every parcel on camera, check the contents against what was ordered, and flag anything that doesn't match before it goes any further.
- Identify cards correctly: year, set, language, card number and variant. The label carries four lines of identification, and every one of them has to be right.
- Run custody: barcode, locker and priority for every card, so the bench always works on the right order next and nothing is ever "somewhere".
- Encase graded cards: seal the case, confirm the NFC chip reads through it, apply the anti-tamper seals, and inspect the finished slab before it is signed off.
- Dispatch: pack, label and ship, with the additional checks that high-value cards require before they leave the building.
- Look after the customer throughout: order queries, progress updates, and the occasional difficult conversation, handled plainly and on time.
- Keep the laboratory stocked: cases, sleeves, labels, NFC inlays, tamper seals and packaging, reordered before they run out rather than after.
- Raise and resolve exceptions: arrival damage, a card that isn't what the order says, a slab that fails inspection. Record what happened, not what should have happened.
Who you are
- Strong TCG knowledge, with hands-on experience and keen to learn and own the process.
- You know cards: sets, printings, languages, variants and reprints across the games we grade, and you can identify a card from its set symbol and number without reaching for a database. You also know roughly what it is worth, and when a declared value looks wrong.
- Careful with other people's property. You handle cards properly, keep a tidy bench, and treat a £2.00 card the way you treat a £200,000 one.
- Organised to a fault. Queues, deadlines, lockers and stock levels sit comfortably in your head, and on record.
- Comfortable with systems: barcode scanners, label printers, an online shop's back office, and learning new software quickly.
- Clear and courteous in writing and on the phone, including when the news is not what the customer hoped for.
- Honest under pressure. A chain of custody is only as good as the person keeping it.
- You have worked in a card shop, run a buylist, or worked a show floor, or you simply know your sets. We can teach you the laboratory; we can't teach you to tell Base Set from Base Set 2 across the room.
- Full training is provided on the laboratory systems, encasement and dispatch.
- Team player, with multiple opportunities for growth; able to hold conversations, dive into other roles to help colleagues out and have fun doing so.
Background is not essential as long as you're into detail and a TCG enthusiast.

What it's like
