We are seeking a professional, reliable, and experienced Maintenance Handyman and Housekeeper couple to support the ongoing operation, upkeep, and presentation of a private residence and the Betws-y-Coed Railway Station complex, a well-established visitor destination located at the gateway to Snowdonia National Park.
The successful candidates will work alongside an existing, supportive team and will be expected to maintain high standards across multiple properties. This role requires individuals who can work independently using their own initiative, while also collaborating effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations.
Maintenance Handyman – Responsibilities
The Maintenance Handyman will be responsible for the general maintenance, repair, and presentation of buildings and grounds across the following locations:
- Betws-y-Coed Railway Station and surrounding grounds
- Alpine Apartments (holiday accommodation)
- Oriel Ospie (art gallery and retail space)
- Private residence (located a short drive from the station)
Key Duties:
- Undertaking general maintenance and repair works across all sites
- Responding promptly to maintenance requests and completing ad-hoc tasks
- Carrying out basic plumbing, electrical, and joinery repairs
- Safe and competent use of hand and power tools
- Grounds maintenance and general outdoor upkeep
- Managing firewood supplies and providing general maintenance assistance at the private residence
- Providing infrequent out-of-hours emergency maintenance support for holiday apartments
- Assisting with artistic projects, installations, and design-related works when required
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in a general maintenance or handyman role
- Practical knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical systems
- Joinery experience and confidence using hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- High standards of workmanship and attention to detail
Desirable Experience:
- Appreciation of design and artistic environments
- Experience within hospitality, tourism, or heritage settings
Housekeeper – Responsibilities
The Housekeeper will join an established housekeeping team and will work alongside other staff members to maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and presentation across both commercial accommodation and a private residence.
Key Duties:
- Cleaning five high-quality self-catering holiday apartments
- Cleaning three bed and breakfast guest rooms to a consistently high standard
- Managing laundry and ironing for guest accommodation
- Undertaking housekeeping duties at the private residence, including laundry and ironing
- Performing general day-to-day cleaning tasks
- Preparing guest rooms for visiting guests and private functions when required
All cleaning products and equipment will be provided.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Previous professional housekeeping or cleaning experience
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining high standards
- Experience with laundry care and ironing
Accommodation and Vehicle Provision
For the right candidates, staff accommodation in the form of a self-contained apartment may be provided, subject to discussion and terms of employment.
A work vehicle will also be provided for business-related use.
The successful couple will be responsible for maintaining the provided apartment and vehicle in a clean, tidy, and well-maintained condition throughout their employment.
Additional Information
- A full, clean UK driving licence is essential
- Due to the rural location, flexibility and reliability are required
- Discretion and professionalism are essential attributes for this role
The owners travel regularly throughout the year. During these periods, the successful couple will be required to reside at the private home and provide care for household pets, including dogs, cats, a parrot, and chickens. A genuine affection for animals is therefore essential.
