About Us
Wemyss Lodge is a well-established care home in Swindon, specialising in residential and nursing care for adults with complex mental health needs. Our residents present with a range of diagnoses and behaviours that can challenge, and we are proud of the structured, therapeutic, and person-centred approach we take to supporting them.

We are now seeking motivated, emotionally intelligent Health Care Assistants who want a role that is engaging, meaningful, and professionally challenging.
About the Role
As a Health Care Assistant at Wemyss Lodge, you will:
- Provide hands-on care and support to adults with complex mental health needs.
- Work directly with residents who may display behaviours that challenge, including distress, agitation, emotional dysregulation, and resistance to care.
- Support residents with daily living tasks while promoting independence, dignity, and choice.
- Use de-escalation techniques, clear communication, and consistent boundaries to maintain safety and stability.
- Follow care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies accurately and consistently.
- Observe, record, and report changes in mental state, behaviour, or physical wellbeing.
- Work closely with nurses, senior carers / Team leaders, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety.
- Contribute to a calm, respectful, and structured environment, even during challenging situations.
This role is rewarding but demanding. It requires resilience, self-awareness, and a genuine interest in mental health care.
Experience in mental health, learning disabilities, autism, or challenging behaviour is highly desirable, but we will consider candidates with strong values, the right attitude, and transferable experience from other Care settings.
Essential Educational Requirements for Care Assistants
- Ideal candidates will have experience in Health and Social Care.
- NVQ/Diploma in Health and Social Care is preferable but not essential, as this will be provided for once probation has been completed.
- We welcome anyone willing to train and work towards fully funded qualifications such as Advanced Dementia, Learning Disabilities, Brain Injuries, Mental Health, and much more.

Shift Options:
- Day shifts: 8.00pm to 8.00am
(Working week runs Monday to Sunday on a flexible rota completed a month in advance)
