Join a supportive mainstream secondary school where you'll make a real difference in a young person's educational journey.
Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Support
We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant (TA) to support a child with autism. The school is a large, mainstream secondary school, easily accessible by bus service, and has an on-site car park; however, this can be hard to navigate after 8:45 due to the large influx of latecomers! Luckily, your hours will be 8:30 to 15:30, so you should have no problem with this!
About the Student:
The student you will be working with is passionate about several sports, particularly basketball and badminton. He loves running after a ball but hates running without a reason (although he enjoys helping his classmates' races by being in charge of the timer!). He is a lovely Year 9 boy who loves chatting with staff and pupils. He struggles with communication and can find this very upsetting, so you will need to be calm, patient and support him to develop his communication skills.
Requirements:
- Experience or qualifications focused on communication would be a plus, particularly Makaton or PECS
- Ability to build a strong relationship with the student, as they have been let down by adults in the past
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
Position Details:
- Ongoing position with potential to become permanent for the right person
- Full-time, Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 15:30
- Location: Swindon
