We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic SEND Graduate Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated team with a specialist (EYFS-KS4) school supporting children and young people with physical and medical needs, autism and associated social, emotional and communication needs.
Working alongside experienced teachers, therapists and support staff, you will help deliver a personalised, nurturing education that enables every pupil to develop academically, socially and emotionally. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in educational psychology, teaching, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy or other SEND professions.
This is a full-time, competitively paid position offering invaluable experience within a highly supportive and specialist educational environment. Working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30-3:30 term time only.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication, sensory and learning needs throughout the school day.
- Work alongside teachers to deliver personalised learning programmes tailored to each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
- Encourage the development of communication, independence, emotional regulation and social interaction skills.
- Use positive behaviour support strategies to promote engagement and celebrate individual successes.
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet pupils' individual needs and learning styles.
- Support pupils during classroom lessons, therapeutic activities and enrichment opportunities.
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute observations to teaching staff to support ongoing planning and assessment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide consistent support.
- Help maintain a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
About You
- A recent graduate in Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies, Health & Social Care or a related subject (graduates from other disciplines with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply).
- Passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism and additional learning needs.
- Patient, resilient and empathetic, with a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
- An excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a collaborative team.
- Adaptable, proactive and willing to learn specialist SEND strategies and approaches.
- Comfortable building positive relationships with pupils who may require additional emotional and behavioural support.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with children or young people with SEND, Autism or additional needs.
- Previous experience in schools, care settings, youth work, mentoring or voluntary roles.
- Knowledge of Autism, communication strategies or positive behaviour support approaches would be advantageous, although full training will be provided.
