We’re looking for a passionate and resilient Peer Recovery Coach to join our Residential Detox Service, supporting individuals through detox and early recovery using your own lived experience to guide, motivate, and inspire.

About the Role
As a Peer Recovery Coach, you will work alongside people at one of the most important stages of their recovery journey — detoxification and stabilisation.
Using your own lived experience, you will provide peer support, encouragement, and guidance, helping individuals manage withdrawal, engage in the programme, and prepare for their next steps into sustained recovery.
This is a meaningful and rewarding role where your story, insight, and empathy can directly impact someone else’s life.
What You’ll Be Doing
Provide peer-led recovery support
- Use your lived experience to support, motivate, and inspire individuals
- Offer one-to-one and group-based support during detox and early recovery
- Build trusting, authentic relationships that promote engagement and hope
Support individuals through detox and stabilisation
- Help people manage withdrawal and navigate early recovery challenges
- Encourage participation in structured programmes and daily routines
- Provide reassurance, guidance, and practical support
Deliver recovery-focused interventions
- Facilitate group sessions focused on recovery awareness, harm reduction, and wellbeing
- Incorporate approaches such as SMART Recovery and 12-step awareness
- Support individuals to plan and access onward recovery pathways
Work collaboratively with others
- Liaise with clinical teams, partner agencies, and support services
- Contribute to assessments, referrals, and recovery planning
- Support admissions, inductions, and smooth transitions into and out of the service
Maintain a safe and supportive environment
- Promote a zero-tolerance approach to substance use within the service
- Support safeguarding, health, and safety practices
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting standards are maintained

Knowledge & Values
- Lived experience of recovery and a passion for supporting others
- Understanding of substance use and recovery pathways
- Commitment to equality, dignity, and a strengths-based approach
- Belief that people can and do recover
Experience
- Experience supporting others in recovery or similar environments (desirable)
- Experience delivering group sessions or peer support (desirable)
Skills & Attributes
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to motivate and engage others
- Resilient, reflective, and emotionally aware
- Able to work as part of a team and independently
Qualifications
- Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care, coaching, or similar (or willingness to complete within 12 months)
- Desirable: Recovery coaching qualification or counselling background
