Job Description - UAV Field Support Engineer
The Field Support Technician plays a critical role in supporting customers using Evolve Dynamics’ UAV platforms and associated systems. This position ensures that end-users receive high-quality technical assistance, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support in the field. The technician acts as a technical ambassador of the company, ensuring that UAV systems are deployed safely, maintained proactively, and supported swiftly when issues occur.

Key Responsibilities
- While in the workshop, carrying out new build, maintenance, upgrade and repair work on products, software and hardware, as and when needed, in line with customer requirements.
- Working with the customer support, field operations, R&D and engineering support services to provide field support from a technical PoV.
- Keep control of and maintain tools, equipment and spare parts for preparation of any field support as and when required.
- Supporting the flight operations team as and when necessary.
- Willingness to travel (domestic and international).
- Other tasks deemed necessary within the scope of the position.
Skills / Experience (with demonstrable examples):
Technical Competencies
- Hands-on experience with UAVs, robotics, avionics, or electro-mechanical systems.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills (hardware, firmware, electronics, networking, RF, ground systems).
- Ability to interpret technical diagrams, schematics, maintenance manuals, and logs.
- Knowledge of UAV flight operations, aerodynamics fundamentals, and mission-planning software (preferred).
- Customer liaison & Support
- Linux experience - cli
- Networking experience (e.g. IP, network architectures)
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills, both technical and customer-facing.
- Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision.
- Calm under pressure, especially during mission-critical operations.

Responsibilities
1. Field Operations Support
- Provide on-site technical support for repairs and upgrades in line with the customers service plans or general requirements.
- If deemed unsuitable for field repairs, couriering the units back to the workshop for further more detailed analysis and repair work.
- May include delivery and handover after repairs.
- Assist customers remotely if necessary with software upgrades, calibration, configuration, and if absolutely necessary, guide them through any repairs the customer can do themselves (with prior agreements signed and permission given)
2. Technical Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, firmware, and software issues on UAV platforms, payloads, ground control systems, and accessories.
- Perform rapid fault analysis and implement fixes within the field when possible, escalating to engineering teams when required.
- Document and report defects, malfunctions, and edge-case issues to the Engineering and QA teams.
3. Maintenance & Repair
- Carry out routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and component replacements on UAV systems.
- Ensure that all equipment (UAVs, batteries, payloads, controllers, etc.) meet operational readiness and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate service logs, repair records, and traceability documentation.
4. Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact for customers during field activities.
- Capture customer requirements, feedback, and pain points for internal product development teams.
- Build strong working relationships by providing clear, timely communication and high-quality support.
6. Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure all field activities comply with relevant aviation regulations and company safety policies.
- Complete incident reports, flight logs, service tickets, and field-visit summaries in a timely manner.
- Assist with certification, testing, and compliance documentation as needed.
7. Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, R&D, Production, and QA teams to escalate issues and provide real-world user insights.
- Support product testing, field trials, and prototype evaluations.
- Participate in internal technical training to maintain up-to-date product knowledge.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel (domestic and international).
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Eligibility to work in regions required.
- Ability to carry equipment (UAV platforms, cases, tools) and work outdoors in various conditions.
- UAV pilot qualifications or GVC/A2 CofC (or equivalent) are advantageous.
