We are currently recruiting a CMS Operator to join our highly skilled team working within our state-of-the-art machine shop. The machine shop is essential to our business function and this is reflected in MCFT’s considerable investment in modern high-tech equipment and software. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining our CMS 5-axis CNC machining centre to produce high-quality parts with precision and efficiency. A key part of the role will involve running pre-programmed CNC programs and ensuring they are executed correctly and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Run and monitor pre-programmed CNC machining operations on CMS 5-axis machines
- Set up and operate CMS 5-axis CNC machine according to production requirements
- Load and secure materials and tooling as required
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications
- Perform basic machine adjustments, calibration, and routine maintenance
- Inspect finished parts using measurement tools (calipers, micrometres, slip gauges etc.)
- Monitor machining processes to ensure accuracy, quality, and safety
- Monitoring and tool setting
- Troubleshoot operational issues and report deviations or concerns
- Maintain clean, organised, and safe working areas
- Complete required documentation and follow production workflows
Basic Requirements
- Ability to run and manage pre-programmed CNC machining cycles
- Ability to read technical drawings and understanding 3D models
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to safety and quality standards
Desirable Skills
- Experience operating CMS 5-axis CNC machines (or similar 5-axis CNC equipment)
- Background in aerospace, composites, automotive, or precision engineering
- Experience machining materials such as aluminium, plastics, or composites
- Basic troubleshooting and maintenance knowledge of CMS machinery
- Knowledge of CAM software is an advantage (e.g., Mastercam, HyperMill, Fusion 360)
