Wilkinson Grant & Co are looking for an experienced, energetic and commercially focused Associate Director / Senior Associate Director to join our Exeter Sales team.
This is a senior fee-earning and listing role for someone who knows estate agency properly. Someone who can prospect for new business, win market appraisals, convert instructions, manage client relationships and help us grow market share across Exeter and the surrounding area.
The successful candidate will work from our Exeter office, focusing primarily on the £500,000 to £2.5 million market within Exeter and around a 10-mile radius.
You’ll report to the Exeter Sales Manager, work closely with the wider sales team and mentor less experienced colleagues along the way.
No ivory tower. No clipboard-only leadership. This is a role for someone who can list, win, advise, follow up and get things moving.
Preferably all before lunch.
The role
This is a hands-on senior sales role, combining business generation, market appraisals, instruction-winning, client care, sales support and mentoring.
You’ll be expected to actively prospect for new opportunities, build relationships with homeowners, win instructions at the right fee and the right price, and help ensure our clients receive the level of service expected from one of the region’s leading independent estate agencies.
You’ll work closely with the Exeter Sales Manager and wider team to drive market share, raise standards and help deliver outstanding results.
This role will suit someone who enjoys being out in the market, talking to people, spotting opportunities and turning conversations into instructions.
It will not suit someone who waits for leads to arrive gift-wrapped with a bow on them.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll help manage and deliver:
- Prospecting for new business
- Building relationships with potential sellers
- Winning market appraisals and instructions
- Providing clear, confident and honest valuation advice
- Managing client relationships from appraisal through to sale
- Working closely with the sales team to deliver a high level of service
- Helping drive Exeter market share, particularly in the £500,000 to £2.5 million sector
- Following up leads, past appraisals, previous clients and local opportunities
- Supporting pricing strategy, launch advice and saleability reviews
- Helping maintain strong standards around communication, presentation and client care
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced colleagues
- Contributing positively to office performance, culture and momentum
- Using CRM and systems properly, because apparently “it’s all in my head” is not a scalable business model
In short, you’ll help us win more of the right instructions, look after clients properly and strengthen our position across Exeter and the surrounding area.
Who we’re looking for
You’re likely to be someone who:
- Has in-depth estate agency experience
- Has a strong track record in listing and instruction-winning
- Understands the mid-to-upper Exeter market
- Is confident advising clients in the £500,000 to £1.5 million range
- Is commercially sharp, but not pushy
- Is brave enough to give honest pricing advice
- Builds trust quickly and naturally
- Follows up properly
- Enjoys prospecting and generating business
- Works well with colleagues and supports the team
- Has high standards around presentation, service and communication
- Is comfortable mentoring less experienced team members
- Knows that winning the instruction is only useful if it is winnable, saleable and properly managed
You’ll need energy, focus, resilience and a proper work ethic.
You’ll also need to like people. Estate agency becomes much harder when you don’t.
What we don’t want
Just to save everyone a bit of time, this probably won’t be the right role for someone who:
- Wants the title more than the responsibility
- Overvalues to win instructions and leaves everyone else to deal with the consequences
- Doesn’t like prospecting
- Is poor with CRM, follow-up or process
- Thinks teamwork is something other people do
- Has lots of ego but not much delivery
- Is too corporate, too comfortable or too fond of saying “that’s not how we did it at my last place”
We’re looking for a senior operator. Not a passenger with a nice business card.
