Welder / Metal Fabricator — Bespoke Staircase Balustrade (Contract)

The project
Residential renovation of a detached coastal property. We need an experienced welder/fabricator to bring an existing curved steel staircase and first-floor gallery up to current Building Regulations (Approved Document K), working to a clear written specification.
Scope of works
- Remove existing balusters from a curved (helical) steel staircase flight and gallery guarding; fabricate and weld in new flat-bar spindles to match the existing serpentine profile (jig from existing baluster), achieving gaps of no more than 99 mm throughout
- Fabricate and install a new guarding run (~4–6 lm) to a first-floor corridor, including posts, top/bottom rails and infill to match existing
- Verify/correct handrail heights to 900 mm (flight and landings)
- Guarding to resist 0.36 kN/m per BS 6180
- Site paint finish to match existing black
- All work to be evidenced for building control sign-off (measurements and photos)
Requirements
- Time-served welder/fabricator with demonstrable experience of staircase or balustrade work — photos/references of comparable completed projects essential (applications without examples will not be considered)
- Own tools, transport and appropriate insurance
- Able to work under the principal contractor's site rules, including induction and hot-works permit
- Comfortable working to a written spec and agreed drawings without design changes on the fly
- Willing to meet on site to review the work and provide a fixed quotation before starting
