This is a key operational leadership role with responsibility for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Breedon’s asphalt plants across Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will oversee production, plant maintenance, people performance and regulatory compliance, while working closely with Contracts and Technical teams to ensure asphalt products are delivered safely, on time and to the required quality standards.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading asphalt production across all three plants, ensuring operational, contractual and customer requirements are met.
- Ensuring plant and equipment are operated safely and supported by effective planned and preventative maintenance.
- Coordinating production requirements with Contracts Managers, including occasional work outside normal operating hours.
- Leading, supporting and developing site teams, ensuring roles, responsibilities and performance expectations are clear.
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance across each location.
- Ensuring all required permits, certifications, inspections and operational documentation remain accurate and up to date.
- Leading investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses and operational non-conformances.
- Working closely with the Technical team to oversee testing, quality checks and the resolution of product or production issues.
- Managing contractors and ensuring they comply with Breedon policies and all relevant statutory requirements.
- Promoting consistently high standards of housekeeping, environmental management and operational discipline across all three plants.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with the Contracts Director, Contracts Managers, and Contracts Supervisors, ensuring clear and effective communication and reporting structures.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers, client representatives, contractors, and members of the public. Demonstrate a professional, collaborative, and non-confrontational approach while maintaining the drive and accountability required to succeed in the role.
- Work closely with all support functions across the business, including Technical, Sales, Finance, Commercial, HR, and Health & Safety teams.

Ensuring production is managed efficiently to maximise productivity, operational performance, and cost-effectiveness
- Coordinating multiple plant operations effectively, requiring strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Planning and managing all resources necessary to deliver production schedules safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.

Minimum 3 years’ operational experience in managing asphalt, quarry, concrete, or aggregate plants
- Health and Safety leadership and safety culture development
- Development of risk assessments and RAM
- Knowledge and understanding of asphalt mixes and construction materials, sustainability targets and recycled asphalt plannings (RAP)
- Understanding of UK/ROI asphalt specifications and highways standards
- Team leadership and supervision, staff training and development
- Contractor management
- Cost control, waste reduction and production KPI reporting
- Supply chain and haulage management and coordination
- IT competent - Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Current UK / ROI Driving licence
