Contract: Casual/zero-hours. Flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and school holidays
Pay: National Minimum Wage
Join the team at F51!
We are looking for practical, reliable and approachable people to help keep F51 safe, welcoming and running smoothly.
Our Venue Assistants work across our skate and climbing floors, reception, café/bar and wider customer areas. They also help us host birthday parties, group bookings, private functions and holiday activities across our multi-storey venue.
This is not an instructor or coaching position. You will not be expected to lead technical skate or climbing sessions. Instead, we need people with good common sense who are confident speaking to customers, enforcing safety rules and stepping in when something does not look right.
Previous climbing experience or relevant training would be useful for those working within the climbing areas, but it is not essential. Appropriate training will be provided, and you will only undertake specialist or safety-critical duties once you have been trained and assessed as competent.
What you’ll be doing
Depending on the shift and your training, your duties may include:
- Marshalling our skate, climbing and bouldering areas.
- Maintaining a visible, approachable presence on the activity floors.
- Monitoring activity and identifying unsafe or inappropriate behaviour.
- Politely but confidently reminding customers of safety rules.
- Responding sensibly to incidents and escalating concerns to the Duty Manager.
- Welcoming customers and checking them in at reception.
- Answering straightforward questions and helping customers find their way around the venue.
- Serving customers in the café/bar, including preparing hot drinks.
- Handling straightforward sales and payments.
- Helping to coordinate birthday parties, group bookings and private functions across the venue.
- Supporting the delivery of holiday camps and group activities under the direction of the responsible session leader.
- Helping with room set-up, customer arrivals, movement between activities and clearing away.
- Completing routine checks and keeping customer areas clean, tidy and free from obvious hazards.
- Reporting accidents, defects, damage or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Following F51’s health and safety, safeguarding and operating procedures.
- Working flexibly across different areas of the venue according to your training and operational needs.
What we’re looking for
You do not need to be a skate or climbing expert. We are looking for people who:
- Have good common sense and sound judgement.
- Are observant and willing to act when something does not look right.
- Are friendly, helpful and confident communicating with children, young people and adults.
- Can enforce rules calmly and respectfully.
- Remain sensible and composed when dealing with an incident.
- Are comfortable working in a busy, active and sometimes noisy environment.
- Are reliable, punctual and willing to work as part of a wider team.
- Can move between different duties and areas during a shift.
- Understand the importance of safeguarding and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Are willing to learn basic café/bar duties, including making coffees.
- Are willing to complete all required training.
- Can work flexibly, including some evenings, weekends and school holidays.
Desirable, but not essential
- Experience of climbing, bouldering, skateboarding or another action sport.
- Previous experience in a leisure venue, climbing wall, skatepark or similar environment.
- Café, bar, hospitality or customer service experience.
- Experience supporting parties, events, groups or holiday activities.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- First Aid, safeguarding or activity-specific training.
