The Opportunity
CDT Electrical Limited is a growing electrical and renewable energy contractor specialising in Solar PV and Battery Storage installations.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced MCS Technical Manager / Nominated Technical Person (NTP) to join the business and take responsibility for the technical and MCS compliance side of our renewable installations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Solar PV/MCS professional who wants to take a senior role within a growing renewable energy business.
We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have previous experience working within an MCS-certified installation company and understand the complete process from survey and design through to installation, commissioning, handover and MCS documentation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will act as the company's Nominated Technical Person for Solar PV and Battery Storage, subject to acceptance by our MCS Certification Body.
Responsibilities will include:
- Taking technical responsibility for Solar PV and Battery Storage installations.
- Supporting CDT Electrical Limited in obtaining and maintaining its own MCS certification.
- Ensuring installations comply with current MCS requirements, British Standards, Building Regulations, manufacturer's instructions and other applicable requirements.
- Reviewing and approving Solar PV and Battery Storage system designs.
- Completing and reviewing MCS documentation for installations.
- Preparing customer handover packs and technical documentation.
- Completing system performance calculations and design documentation.
- Ensuring correct DNO applications/notifications including G98/G99 where applicable.
- Reviewing electrical certification and commissioning documentation.
- Ensuring correct equipment selection, system design, protection and labelling.
- Maintaining the technical sections of the company's MCS Quality Management System.
- Carrying out internal technical quality assurance checks and installation audits.
- Preparing the company and installations for MCS surveillance and assessment visits.
- Identifying and resolving any technical non-conformities.
- Maintaining appropriate competency and training records.
- Providing technical support to electricians, roofers and installation teams.
- Assisting with technical and compliance paperwork for installations CDT Electrical undertakes on behalf of other MCS-certified companies.
- Helping develop robust processes that allow the company's renewable division to grow while maintaining high technical and compliance standards.
About You
We are looking for someone with strong practical knowledge of the Solar PV industry who understands MCS compliance in the real world.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience as an MCS Nominated Technical Person, Technical Manager, Supervisor or similar.
- Strong working knowledge of MCS Solar PV requirements.
- Knowledge and experience of Battery Energy Storage Systems (EESS).
- Relevant current Solar PV qualifications/competency.
- Relevant Battery Storage qualifications/competency.
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and electrical installation requirements.
- Experience completing MCS documentation and customer handover packs.
- Experience with Solar PV system design and performance calculations.
- Knowledge of G98/G99 requirements and DNO processes.
- Experience preparing for or attending MCS assessments.
- A high standard of attention to detail and record keeping.
- The confidence to take ownership of technical compliance within the business.
Previous experience being formally registered as an NTP for another MCS contractor would be highly desirable.
