Job Title: Building Surveyor
Location: Plough Lane, Hereford, HR4 0LE
Contract duration: 143+ Days
Working Hours: 24 hours per week - On site in Hereford 2 to 3 days per week

Pay Rate: PAYE £26.72 per hour
Job Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor the condition, safety and compliance of the council's buildings
- Work closely with the council's partner organisation to make sure buildings meet health, safety and legal requirements
- Support the Property Services and PMO teams with capital and building projects
- Inspect buildings, identify defects and recommend suitable repairs or improvements
- Provide professional building surveying advice to council teams and other stakeholders
- Manage building projects from planning through to completion
- Act as Contract Administrator on relevant projects
- Act as Principal Designer where required
- Ensure building work complies with current legislation, regulations, planning requirements and council policies
- Work on a varied property portfolio, including listed buildings, Scheduled Ancient Monuments, commercial and industrial properties
- Consider conservation and heritage requirements when planning building works
- Work with different council teams to maintain a safe, compliant and well-managed property estate
- Identify building risks and recommend practical solutions
- Manage several projects and priorities at the same time and meet deadlines
- Keep accurate records, reports and project documentation
- Work independently while also supporting colleagues and working as part of a wider team
- Where qualified and required, support asbestos and fire management activities as a Nominated Person
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified RICS Chartered Surveyor
- Strong experience working in a property or building surveying environment
- Good knowledge of building surveying, maintenance and property management
- Good understanding of current building legislation and regulations
- Knowledge of conservation and planning policies
- Experience working with listed or historic buildings and heritage properties
- Experience working with commercial and industrial buildings
- Experience acting as a Contract Administrator
- Experience acting as a Principal Designer on building projects
- Strong understanding of building safety and compliance
- Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Able to work independently and use your own initiative
- Able to work well as part of a team
- Able to manage several projects and priorities at the same time
- Good communication and relationship-building skills
- Able to work to tight deadlines
- Full UK driving licence
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Able to provide two years of references/work history
Desirable
- Experience acting as a Nominated Person for Asbestos Management
- Experience acting as a Nominated Person for Fire Management
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector organisation
- Experience managing projects involving historic or listed buildings
