About the role -
Rowes Retreats is looking for a reliable, hardworking and friendly person to join our growing team as a Laundry & Operations Assistant.
This is a varied, hands-on role based from our Yard and operations hub in Penryn. You will play an important part in the day-to-day running of our properties, acting as a link between the Yard, our housekeeping team and the properties themselves.
The role combines daily property rounds with laundry processing, key management, stock control and general operational support.
No previous laundry, housekeeping or hospitality experience is required. Full training will be provided. We're much more interested in finding someone who is dependable, organised, practical and takes genuine pride in doing things properly.
You'll spend part of each day out visiting our properties and supporting our housekeeping team, before returning to the Yard to process laundry and prepare everything needed for the following day.
What a typical day might look like10:00am – Arrive at the Yard
Start the day at our Penryn operations hub, check the day's schedule and load the clean linen and any other items required for that day's changeovers.
This could include travel cots, high chairs, guest supplies, replacement items or anything else that needs to be delivered to a property.
You'll also collect and organise the relevant property keys before heading out for the day's rounds.
10:15–10:30am onwards – Property rounds
Our housekeepers generally begin their changeovers at 10:00am, giving them time to get started and strip the beds before you arrive.
At each property, you'll typically:
- Deliver the clean linen required for the day's changeover
- Deliver any additional items or supplies required at the property
- Collect bags of used bedding and towels from the housekeeper already working at the property
- Collect rubbish and waste where required
- Collect items that need returning to the Yard, such as travel cots, high chairs or other equipment
- Manage and check property keys
- Open and check housekeeping cupboards
- Check stock levels of essential cleaning products and guest supplies
- Make sure the housekeeping team has everything they need to complete the changeover properly
- Replenish supplies where possible
- Report anything that appears damaged, missing or requires attention
Our housekeepers are responsible for reporting maintenance issues and damage as part of their role, but as another pair of eyes regularly visiting our properties, we would also expect you to flag anything obvious that doesn't look right.
Occasionally, something unexpected will be needed during a changeover. You may need to return to the Yard to collect an item, pick something up locally or help resolve a straightforward operational issue so that the housekeeping team can continue working without unnecessary delays.
You'll also occasionally encounter guests, property owners and other people while visiting our properties, so being friendly, approachable and professional is an important part of the role.
Back at the Yard -
Once the property rounds are complete, you'll return to our laundry facility and begin processing the collected laundry ready for upcoming changeovers.
This will include:
- Sorting laundry
- Loading and unloading our commercial washing machines and dryers
- Ironing and finishing bedding
- Folding towels and linen
- Organising completed laundry
- Preparing and packing linen for the following day's changeovers
- Recording any stock shortages identified during your rounds
- Organising and managing our central stock of supplies
- Preparing items needed to replenish property cupboards
- Managing and organising property keys
- Keeping the laundry and Yard clean, organised and running efficiently
The working day will naturally vary depending on how busy we are. During quieter periods, you may finish earlier once the day's work is complete. During particularly busy periods, especially throughout the summer, you should expect some longer days.
Who we're looking for -
You don't need previous experience, full training will be provided.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Extremely reliable and punctual
- Hardworking and happy in a hands-on role
- Organised with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable taking responsibility for their own area of the operation
- Able to work independently and manage their own workload
- Friendly, warm and professional
- Practical and capable of solving straightforward problems
- Comfortable communicating with housekeepers, guests and property owners
- Happy driving regularly between properties
- Willing to get stuck in and help wherever needed
You must hold a full driving licence and have access to your own reliable vehicle.
The role involves regularly lifting and carrying bags of laundry, moving equipment, loading and unloading vehicles and being on your feet for much of the day, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.
Hours and working pattern -
Our operation runs seven days a week, and we're ideally looking for someone who is flexible and happy to work approximately 20–25 hours per week, including some weekend work.
The exact working pattern can be discussed with the right candidate.
The nature of the role means working hours will vary depending on how busy we are. Some quieter days will be shorter, while busy changeover days will require longer hours. We're looking for someone who appreciates that flexibility and is comfortable working as part of a seasonal and fast-moving operation.
Opportunities to grow with us -
Rowes Retreats is continuing to grow, and we want to find someone who can grow with the company.
For the right person, there will be opportunities to take on additional hours and responsibilities in other areas of the business over time. This could include further work at the Yard, supporting our wider operations or potentially assisting with office-based work depending on your skills and interests.
For someone capable, reliable and ambitious, there is plenty of opportunity to develop their role as the company continues to expand.
About Rowes Retreats -
Rowes Retreats is a growing accommodation management company based in Falmouth, managing properties across Falmouth and the surrounding area.
A major part of what makes us different is our commitment to running a genuinely comprehensive, end-to-end operation in-house. Rather than outsourcing the key parts of the guest and property experience to third-party companies, we take direct responsibility for the entire process from bookings and guest communication through to housekeeping, laundry and day-to-day property operations.
Quality, consistency and accountability are at the heart of what we do, and maintaining high standards across every part of the operation is incredibly important to us.
This role sits right in the middle of that operation. You'll help make sure our housekeepers have everything they need, our properties are properly stocked, our linen is prepared to the right standard and the day-to-day logistics behind the scenes run smoothly.
We're a close-knit and growing team, and we're looking for someone dependable who takes pride in their work and wants to become an important part of what we're building.
And, importantly, you'll have access to free coffee all day from our on-site coffee shop.
If you're reliable, practical, organised and enjoy a varied role where you're trusted to get on with the job, we'd love to hear from you.
