Senior Assessment Review Officer (Grade 10) – Interims
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
Contract: 18 Weeks Temporary Contract
We’re recruiting a Senior Assessment Review Officer to support Council’s SEND Assessment and Review Team. This is a senior role, ideal for someone with significant SEND experience, strong knowledge of statutory processes, and the ability to oversee complex casework while supporting and challenging colleagues.
About the Role
As a Senior Assessment Review Officer, you’ll provide senior-level support to ensure statutory SEND processes are delivered effectively and within legal timescales. You’ll oversee complex case tracking, undertake quality assurance, and hold a small caseload of high-risk cases requiring senior oversight.
What you’ll be doing:
· Monitoring and tracking EHC needs assessments, annual reviews, reassessments, and phase transfers
· Identifying delays, risks, and barriers to progression, taking appropriate action to resolve issues
· Providing advice, guidance, coaching, and support to Assessment and Reviewing Officers
· Promoting accountability within the team by monitoring performance and case progression
· Undertaking quality assurance of EHC Plans, casework, and decision-making
· Holding and managing a small caseload of complex, sensitive, or high-profile cases (including complaints, mediation, or tribunal activity)
· Working collaboratively with families, schools, health, and social care professionals
· Supporting managers with performance monitoring, service improvement, and reporting
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates with:
· Significant experience of SEND statutory processes and EHC Plans
· Strong knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
· Experience managing complex SEND casework
· Experience supporting, advising, and motivating colleagues
· Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
· Ability to analyse information, make sound decisions, and meet deadlines
Desirable:
· Experience of quality assurance, supervision, or team leadership
· Relevant qualification in education, SEND, social care, or related field
