Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Software Engineer to join our development team in Bristol.
The successful candidate will have strong experience with Python application development and will work across desktop applications, web applications, backend systems, and full-stack development.
You will be involved in designing, developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining high-quality software solutions while collaborating with the wider technical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust applications using Python.
- Develop and maintain desktop applications using Python and suitable desktop frameworks.
- Build responsive, scalable, and user-friendly web applications.
- Work across both frontend and backend components as a full-stack developer.
- Develop and integrate REST APIs and web services.
- Design, develop, and optimise database solutions.
- Write clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-tested code.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical and architectural decisions.
- Use Git and modern software development practices.
- Collaborate with developers, designers, product teams, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to application deployment, maintenance, performance improvements, and ongoing development.
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies where appropriate.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Strong programming experience with Python.
- Proven experience developing web applications and backend services.
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with Python web frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
- Strong experience with REST APIs and third-party integrations.
- Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar.
- Experience with frontend development and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular.
- Experience developing or maintaining desktop applications.
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
- Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with PyQt, PySide, Tkinter, or similar desktop frameworks.
- Experience with React and TypeScript.
- Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with automated testing and test-driven development.
- Linux development experience.
- Understanding of software security, scalability, and performance optimisation.
