The Role
We are seeking an experienced and capable Care Home Manager to take overall responsibility for the culture, quality, compliance, and performance of the home.
The successful candidate will provide strong, visible leadership and ensure the home operates to consistently high standards across care delivery, governance, staffing, and financial performance.
This is a senior leadership position with significant autonomy and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Culture
- Provide clear, consistent leadership across the home.
- Promote a professional, respectful, and high-performing workplace culture.
- Support, develop, and manage staff at all levels.
- Address performance issues constructively and fairly.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain full compliance with CQC regulations and best practice.
- Lead preparation for inspections and regulatory reviews.
- Implement and monitor improvement plans where required.
- Ensure safeguarding, clinical governance, and risk management systems are effective.
Governance & Auditing
- Maintain robust governance and quality assurance systems.
- Ensure audits are completed accurately and followed through.
- Monitor key performance indicators and quality metrics.
- Use data and feedback to support continuous improvement.
Resident Experience
- Ensure residents feel safe, supported, and at home.
- Maintain high standards of person-centred care.
- Oversee assessments, care planning, and reviews.
- Manage concerns and complaints openly and professionally.
Operational Management
- Oversee staffing, rotas, recruitment, and retention.
- Ensure appropriate training, supervision, and appraisal systems are in place.
- Monitor agency usage and workforce planning.
- Maintain smooth day-to-day operations.
Financial & Commercial Management
- Manage budgets and control expenditure.
- Support occupancy levels and relationships with commissioners.
- Monitor income and costs to ensure sustainability.
- Contribute to business planning and development.
External Relationships
- Maintain positive relationships with families, professionals, and commissioners.
- Represent the home professionally within the community.
- Support marketing and reputation management activities.
Recruitment & Development
- Lead recruitment and induction processes.
- Develop talent within the team.
- Support succession planning and leadership development.
Accountability
- Take overall responsibility for service performance.
- Participate in the on-call rota as required.
- Work collaboratively with central support teams.
Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Care Home Manager.
- Level 4 or Level 5 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
- Track record of achieving and maintaining Good or Outstanding CQC outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and safeguarding.
- Experience managing medium-sized nursing homes.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Confidence in managing performance and difficult conversations.
- High level of IT literacy, with confidence using digital care planning, auditing, rota, and compliance systems in a largely paperless environment.
- Experience with governance, auditing, and quality systems.
- Commercial awareness and budget management experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
- Experience leading service improvement or turnaround.
