Workshop Driver & Mechanical Assistant
Your Local Mechanic – Dudley / Stourbridge area
We’re looking for a reliable, practical and mechanically minded person to join Your Local Mechanic and support the day-to-day running of our busy garage.
This is a varied role combining customer vehicle collection and delivery, general workshop support and practical mechanical assistance.
It would suit someone who is confident around cars, enjoys hands-on work and can turn their hand to a range of different jobs.
You do not need to be a fully qualified mechanic.
What you’ll be doing
The role will include:
- Collecting customer vehicles and returning them once work is completed
- Driving customer vehicles safely and professionally
- Collecting parts and carrying out local errands
- Moving and organising vehicles around the workshop
- Helping keep the garage clean, organised and running smoothly
- Assisting with basic vehicle checks and straightforward mechanical tasks
- Helping prepare vehicles and work areas for jobs
- Supporting the mechanic with general workshop tasks
- Basic cleaning and presentation of customer vehicles where required
- Other practical jobs that help keep the business running efficiently

- Happy doing a varied role rather than the same task every day
- Friendly and professional when dealing with customers
- Organised and willing to help wherever needed
Previous experience working in a garage, workshop, tyre centre, recovery business, parts department or similar environment would be useful, but isn’t essential if you have good practical automotive knowledge.
This role could also suit someone with previous motor trade experience who no longer wants the pressure of working as a full-time mechanic but still enjoys being around cars and workshops.

- Full UK driving licence
- Good driving record
- Comfortable driving customer vehicles
- Basic knowledge of cars and vehicle maintenance
- Reliable transport to get to work
About Your Local Mechanic
Your Local Mechanic is a growing independent garage serving customers across Dudley, Stourbridge and the surrounding area.
We’ve built our reputation around honest advice, good workmanship and looking after customers properly. The business is growing quickly, and this role is being created to help us keep delivering a great service while allowing our mechanic to concentrate on skilled repair and diagnostic work.
Hours and pay
Part-time or full-time hours may be considered depending on the right candidate.
Pay will depend on experience and the hours agreed.
