About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and reliable HGV Class 1 Driver (Category C+E) to join our team in Derby.
The role will primarily involve the safe delivery and collection of plant, pumps, tools and associated equipment to and from customer and project sites. You will be responsible for ensuring equipment reaches site safely and on time while maintaining high standards of vehicle safety, compliance and customer service.
This is a hands-on driving role suited to someone who is comfortable working independently, dealing directly with customers and operating within busy construction, engineering and site environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) vehicles for the delivery and collection of plant, tools and equipment
- Carry out pre-use, en-route and post-use vehicle checks and report any defects promptly
- Ensure all loads are correctly positioned and securely restrained before travelling
- Safely load and unload equipment using appropriate equipment and methods, where trained and authorised
- Plan and follow routes to meet delivery and collection requirements efficiently
- Comply with UK drivers' hours, Working Time Directive requirements and tachograph regulations
- Complete all required delivery and collection paperwork and electronic documentation accurately
- Obtain customer signatures and proof of delivery/collection where required
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and carry out basic daily checks, including tyres, fluids and warning lights
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures when working at the depot, customer premises and project sites
- Communicate professionally with customers and site personnel during deliveries and collections
- Report accidents, incidents, vehicle defects and delivery issues promptly
- Work closely with the transport and operations teams to support day-to-day requirements
- Take responsibility for the safe and professional operation of the allocated vehicle
Essential Requirements
- Valid Category C+E (HGV Class 1) driving licence
- Valid Driver CPC
- Valid Digital Tachograph Card
- Previous HGV Class 1 driving experience
- Good understanding of UK road transport legislation and drivers' hours
- Good knowledge of vehicle and load safety
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work safely under pressure and meet delivery deadlines
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience delivering and collecting plant, pumps, machinery or construction equipment
- Experience working on construction, civil engineering, utilities or similar sites
- Experience securing unusual or heavy plant and equipment loads
- Forklift or other relevant plant/equipment qualifications would be advantageous
