About OhMyFood: OhMyFood is building the UK’s first home-cooked food marketplace platform for daily lunch and dinner. We connect customers with freshly prepared meals made by talented local home chefs. Our mission is to make fresh, wholesome, home-cooked meals more accessible. We are currently preparing for our Phase 1 launch in London.
Role Overview: This is a volunteer advisory role for our Phase 1 launch, with the potential to convert into a paid advisory or formal role as OhMyFood grows. As a Legal / Compliance Advisor, you will work closely with the founder and operations team to help OhMyFood build responsibly and safely from the start.
You will support us in understanding legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements across food-tech, home chef onboarding, customer protection, platform terms, privacy, insurance, and local authority requirements. This role is ideal for someone with legal, compliance, food safety, startup, hospitality, or marketplace experience who wants to support an early-stage food-tech startup with practical, clear, and commercially sensible guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support OhMyFood with food safety, home chef compliance, and marketplace platform requirements.
- Help review and improve terms and conditions, privacy policy, and various platform policies.
- Advise on home chef onboarding requirements, food hygiene, allergen information, kitchen standards, and safety documentation.
- Support understanding of local council requirements, street promotion permissions, and public liability insurance.
- Help review basic contracts, partnership agreements, supplier agreements, and onboarding documents.
- Advise on marketing permissions, customer communications, data protection, and privacy considerations.
- Help identify legal and compliance risks before launch and suggest practical ways to reduce them.
- Support the creation of simple compliance checklists, SOPs, and internal guidelines.
- Work with the founder and operations team to ensure OhMyFood launches with trust, safety, and responsible processes.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in legal, compliance, food safety, regulatory affairs, startup advisory, hospitality compliance, data protection, contracts, or a related field.
- Understanding of UK business, consumer, food safety, privacy, or marketplace-related compliance is helpful.
- Experience with food-tech, hospitality, delivery platforms, marketplaces, restaurants, catering, or local council requirements is a strong plus.
- Ability to explain legal or compliance topics in simple, practical language.
- Commercial mindset and ability to balance risk management with startup execution.
- Strong attention to detail and professional judgment.
- Comfortable working remotely with an early-stage startup team.
- Legal qualification is helpful but not mandatory if the candidate has strong practical compliance experience.
