Housing Officer – Redditch, £28,620.80 per year
Do you want a job where you're the reason someone gets to close their own front door for the first time in years? YMCA Worcestershire is looking for a Housing Officer to join our team in Redditch, helping to manage safe, stable, well-run tenancies for the people who need us most.
About us
YMCA Worcestershire has been supporting young people, families and communities across the county for over 150 years. Our purpose is simple: everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become. We're here for young people, here for communities, and here for you.
What you'll be doing
As Housing Officer, you'll manage tenancies from start to finish - handling referrals and applications, carrying out pre-tenancy checks, setting up new tenancies and managing rent and benefit payments. You'll keep our housing waiting list up to date, work closely with the Tenancy Manager to manage voids and keep occupancy as high as possible, and liaise with maintenance, local authorities and other agencies on behalf of our residents. You'll also help safeguard the wellbeing of the people we house, flagging any concerns quickly, and pitch in with the admin, reporting and occasional practical tasks that keep a busy housing service running smoothly.
- Manage referrals, sign-ups and pre-tenancy checks
- Oversee rent, benefit payments and financial record keeping
- Manage voids to keep occupancy as high as possible
- Liaise with local authorities, partners and the maintenance team
- Produce management information and performance reports
- Some evening, weekend and lone working, plus participation in an on-call rota
What we're looking for
We're after someone with solid administrative skills, a good head for figures, and the confidence to communicate clearly with residents, colleagues and external partners alike. Experience in a housing or tenancy administration setting is a real advantage, as is some understanding of housing law, tenant and landlord rights, or welfare benefits - but we also value character just as much as CV. You'll need to stay calm under pressure, handle difficult situations with empathy, and genuinely want the best for the people you're working with. You'll need to be comfortable working within a Christian ethos and committed to equality, diversity and safeguarding in everything you do.
What we offer
£28,620.80 per year for a 40-hour week (inclusive of paid lunch breaks), plus the chance to be part of a team that's genuinely changing lives across Worcestershire. You'll get ongoing training and development, and the support of a close-knit team who have each other's backs.
