An established and successful business based in Middlesbrough is seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join its finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
This is an excellent opportunity for an organised and detail-oriented finance professional to join a fast-paced environment, supporting a busy finance function across purchase ledger, banking, and month-end activities.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm
- Process high volumes of purchase invoices accurately and efficiently.

Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes.

Support the day-to-day management of the purchase ledger.

Resolve invoice discrepancies and supplier queries.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations across multiple accounts and currencies.

Post and allocate cash receipts accurately.

Assist with payment processing and banking administration.
- Assist with month-end close activities.

Support prepayments, accruals, and general ledger maintenance.

Help ensure financial records are accurate and up to date.
- Provide administrative support to the wider finance team.

Respond to internal and external finance-related queries.

Assist with ad hoc finance projects and reporting requirements as needed.
- Previous experience working within a busy finance or accounts environment is essential.

Strong purchase ledger/accounts payable experience.

Experience carrying out bank reconciliations and cash allocation activities.
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.

Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
