The Salvation Army in Sutton is a vibrant, community-focused church with two sites in Sutton and Carshalton. Rooted in our core value of Christian hospitality, we are committed to creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued.
The Relief Community Programme Assistant will support the delivery of the church's mission by helping to facilitate church and community activities, assisting with hall hire, and providing administrative support as required. Working flexibly across a variety of tasks, the postholder will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the church and community centre, offering practical assistance to staff, volunteers, and visitors. This hands-on role is key to ensuring our programmes and facilities operate effectively, enabling the church to continue serving the local community with excellence and care.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the delivery of community programmes, Coffee House operations, church activities, and hall hire, supporting the successful outworking of the church's mission. This may include leading groups, facilitating activities, and providing practical support with set-up and pack-down as required.

Demonstrate both a professional and caring manner when interacting with programme participants to create a welcoming and supportive environment

Fulfil any relevant administration processes to ensure that accurate records are maintained

Assist the development of volunteers to ensure that they contribute successfully to the programmes and activities

Fulfil your duties in alignment with all relevant Salvation Army and statutory policies and procedures including health and safety, data protection, safeguarding, equality and diversity
The successful candidate will have be able to demonstrate:

The motivation and willingness to support your local community, showing compassion and understanding to all programme participants

The ability to follow instructions and perform tasks as directed by your manager, in a timely manner and to the required quality standards

A good level of English - both spoken and written - and numeracy required to enable you to fulfil all duties of the role
It would be helpful if the successful candidate is able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience of managing employees and/or volunteers.
- Experience of funding and grant application processes.
