About SENAID
SENAID is a grassroots Birmingham-based charity supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and their families. We provide practical, compassionate support to families facing school difficulties, delayed support, exclusions, emotionally based non-attendance, and the EHCP process.
We are now looking to recruit a Family Support Lead to play a key role within our frontline service.
About the Role
This is an important part-time role leading SENAID’s family support strand. You will provide direct support to families experiencing SEND-related educational and emotional challenges, while also helping to maintain consistency and good practice across the wider family support team.
You will work directly with parents/carers, help them navigate issues such as school concerns, attendance difficulties, exclusions, and EHCP processes, and contribute to support that is clear, compassionate, and well organised.
The role will also involve providing day-to-day guidance to volunteers and placement students within the family support strand, while escalating more complex matters appropriately to the Operational Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on allocated family support work and provide structured support to parents/carers.
- Support families with SEND-related concerns including school difficulties, exclusions, attendance issues, and access to provision.
- Help families understand and navigate SEND processes, including EHC needs assessments and annual reviews.
- Attend school or multi-agency meetings where appropriate.
- Maintain clear, timely, and professional case records.
- Support volunteers and placement students within the family support strand.
- Help promote consistency, good communication, and safe practice across the team.
- Escalate safeguarding or complex concerns appropriately.
- Contribute to team learning and service improvement.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- empathetic, organised, and dependable
- confident communicating with families and professionals
- able to build trust while maintaining professional boundaries
- comfortable working in a small, developing charity environment
You should have:
- experience in family support, SEND, education, social care, advocacy, or a related area
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- the ability to maintain accurate records
- an understanding of SEND-related issues affecting children and families
Experience of supporting volunteers, students, or junior colleagues would be welcome but is not essential.
Working Arrangements
- Hybrid role with remote working and some in-person meetings/visits where required
- Based in or near Birmingham
- Worked across the week in line with service need and agreed arrangements
