About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and committed Children's Residential Support Worker to join our team supporting a 15-year-old young person within a therapeutic children's home. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing a safe, nurturing and structured environment that promotes positive outcomes and helps the young person reach their full potential.
You will build positive relationships, provide emotional support, encourage independence, and work alongside education, healthcare professionals and other agencies to deliver high-quality, child-centred care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care and emotional support to a 15-year-old young person.
- Build positive, trusting and professional relationships.
- Promote the young person's physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
- Support with daily routines including personal care (where appropriate), meal preparation, household tasks and maintaining a clean home.
- Encourage participation in education, training and recreational activities.
- Support attendance at school, appointments, family contact and community activities.
- Manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support and therapeutic approaches.
- Implement care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
- Maintain professional boundaries while providing consistent care.
- Promote independence, life skills and confidence.
- Administer medication in line with company policies (following training).
- Complete accurate daily records, incident reports and safeguarding documentation.
- Participate in handovers, team meetings, supervision and training.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals and families.
- Safeguard children at all times and report any concerns immediately.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of care.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards it where applicable).
- Experience working with children or young people with emotional and behavioural needs.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible to work shifts, weekends and sleep-ins.
- Good written and IT skills for record keeping.
- Full UK driving licence (preferred).
Desirable
- Experience within an Ofsted-regulated children's home.
- Knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Experience supporting young people with:
- Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
- Trauma
- ADHD
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Attachment difficulties
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or Team Teach/MAPA training.
- Medication administration training.
