About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee the safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery of contracts across the South. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven individual with experience in highways, utilities, or traffic management to play a key role in operational performance, customer satisfaction, and business growth.
The successful candidate will provide leadership across multiple contracts, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and service while maintaining strong customer relationships and delivering commercial success.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Ensure all works are delivered safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Carry out regular site visits to promote and verify safe working practices.
- Champion a strong safety culture across all operations.
Operational Management
- Oversee the planning and delivery of projects and schemes.
- Monitor daily operational performance and resolve issues effectively.
- Ensure work is completed to contract specifications and industry best practice.
- Manage and support coordination teams, supervisors, and operational staff.
- Drive continuous improvement and enhance service delivery.
Commercial & Financial Management
- Manage contract expenditure and maintain cost control.
- Monitor commercial performance and profitability.
- Improve productivity and maximise resource utilisation.
- Support forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting activities.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
- Deliver excellent customer service and ensure high standards are maintained.
- Understand customer requirements and respond to issues professionally and promptly.
- Support the retention and growth of key accounts.
Business Development
- Identify opportunities for growth within the region.
- Develop relationships with prospective customers.
- Support senior management in expanding the business and securing new opportunities.
About You
Essential Requirements
- Strong understanding of the highways and utilities sector.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and contract performance.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing environment.
- Strong relationship-building and networking abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience within traffic management, highways, or utility maintenance.
- IOSH Managing Safely, SSSTS, SMSTS, or equivalent qualifications.
- Lantra qualifications (12A/B, 12D, TSCO).
- Experience with traffic management design software and CAD systems.
- TTME qualification.
- Additional commercial or business management qualifications.
