We are looking for an organised, proactive and commercially minded Buyer to join our team. You will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials, services and plant hire across the business, while maintaining strong supplier relationships and supporting the wider operational needs of the company.
This is a varied role involving procurement, supplier management, plant hire, travel arrangements, account monitoring and general administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, evaluate and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors for construction materials, equipment and services.
- Liaise with Contract Managers and Site Supervisors regarding project requirements.
- Raise and manage purchase orders using Construction Manager and maintain accurate procurement records.
- Set up and maintain supplier accounts on internal systems, including payment terms and credit limits.
- Manage plant and subcontractor plant hire, monitoring hire periods and return dates.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate competitive pricing, delivery schedules and contract terms.
- Arrange business travel and accommodation, including flights, trains and ferries, while monitoring costs and budgets.
- Monitor company Phone accounts and contracts, including adding and cancelling contracts as advised.
- Order and manage office supplies across company offices.
- Manage vehicle tax renewals and support.
- Provide procurement reports and information to management, including spend, supplier performance and cost trends when required.
- Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, invoices, contracts and delivery documentation.
- Support general administration, including company gifting and the annual Christmas party.
About You
- Previous experience in buying, procurement or purchasing, ideally within construction or a related industry.
- Strong supplier management and negotiation skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- High attention to detail and accurate record keeping.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Good communication and IT skills.
- Commercially aware with a proactive, problem-solving approach.
- Experience with Sage and Construction Manager would be advantageous.
