Main purpose of job
A night porter is responsible for the hotel’s security during the night hours. You are tasked with covering the hotels reception area when the receptionist is not on duty. A night porter has to be pleasant and have good listening skills and be able to provide the correct information when asked.

The Kings Arms and The Crown Inn Hotels, Old Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
Shift pattern Coverage:
Monday – Sunday 11pm to 7am
Main tasks of Night Porter job:
- Regular security walk round checks.
- Monitor sound levels, to keep noise at minimum.
- Complete Night Check List Duties and Record Completion.
- Provide Drink Room service to guests and charge to the room correctly.
- Receiving visitors at the front desk by standing up to greet and welcome them as soon as they walk in the front door.
- Answering, screening, and forwarding incoming phone calls and emails.
- Ordering newspapers
- Organising wake up calls
- Ensuring the reception desk and foyer area is tidy and presentable, with all the necessary stationery and material (e.g., pens, forms, brochures, and leaflets), low stock to be reported to the reception supervisor for ordering.
- Provide basic and accurate information in person and via email and telephone.
- Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access via the reception desk (monitor logbook, issue visitor badges).
- Book travel.
- Authorising room swaps in an emergency.
- Managing guest complaints, minor complaints to be dealt with, major complaints to be sent to the Night Manager or Assistant Night Manager (if on shift), if not, send to General Manager.
- Report any incident, in writing to the Morning Receptionist.
- Booking reservations.
- Checking guests in and taking room payment upfront.
- Checking guests out taking payment for any extras due to the company.
- Follow the company’s policies and procedures.
