Hair and Beauty Tutor (Maternity Cover)
Salary range: £24,492 - £26,622
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract Term: Fixed term maternity cover (please note this cover is to at least March 2027)
Location: Sunderland (there is a peripatetic element to this role travel between sites is required)
Leave: 25 days per annum, plus statutory holidays. We also operate a Christmas closure period which is paid and does not reduce your annual leave entitlement.

The Role
We are looking for a passionate and inspiring Hair and Beauty Therapy Tutor to support young people in developing the skills, confidence and professional behaviours needed to succeed within the hair and beauty industry.
Based within our Aspire Hair and Beauty salons in Sunderland and Jarrow, you will deliver engaging practical and theory-based learning to post-16 learners, supporting achievement from Level 1 through to Level 2 programmes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled industry professional or experienced tutor who is committed to making a difference. You will help learners build technical competency, confidence and employability skills, enabling them to progress into apprenticeships, employment or further learning.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality Hair and Beauty Therapy sessions that meet the needs of all learners.
- Use a range of teaching strategies to motivate and inspire learners to achieve their goals.
- Assess learner progress using appropriate methods and provide constructive feedback that supports improvement.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and learning styles.
- Embed English, maths, digital skills and employability throughout vocational delivery.
- Monitor progress and implement timely interventions to support learner achievement.
Learner Engagement and Support
- Build positive and professional relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and resilience.
- Support learners to develop technical skills alongside workplace behaviours and professional standards.
- Encourage high levels of attendance, participation and achievement.
- Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants and specialist staff to support learners with SEND and additional needs.
- Promote learner wellbeing and positive progression pathways.
Industry and Employer Engagement
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers and industry partners.
- Support meaningful workplace experiences and employer-led learning opportunities.
- Ensure learners understand employer expectations and current industry practices.
- Actively promote progression routes into apprenticeships, employment and further education.
Safeguarding, Inclusion and Wellbeing
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of all learners.
- Create safe, inclusive and respectful learning environments.
- Embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, British Values and Prevent throughout delivery.
- Support learners to stay safe online and develop an understanding of personal responsibility.
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies and procedures.
Quality and Professional Practice
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, learner voice initiatives and self-assessment processes.
- Contribute to internal verification and quality assurance activities.
- Keep vocational knowledge and teaching practice up to date through continuous professional development.
- Support promotional and recruitment activities as required.
Person Specification Essential
- Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or a closely related vocational area.
- Strong and up-to-date industry knowledge.
- Experience delivering practical skills training, coaching or mentoring.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young people to achieve their goals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Commitment to inclusive and learner-centred practice.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with learners, colleagues and employers.
- Up-to-date digital skills.
- Ability to travel to meet the needs of the role.
Desirable
- Teaching, Assessing or Internal Quality Assurance qualification.
- Experience of working with post-16 learners.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND or additional barriers to learning.
- Experience within further education, work-based learning or vocational training.
- Experience working with employers and external agencies.
- Qualifications in both Hair and Beauty Therapy.
