A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an English speaking female Personal Assistant Carer (PA) to provide 24 hour care throughout the year and become part of a small family led team who provide complete care and support to their young adult daughter living in Nottingham in a home adjacent to her parents’ home. The successful candidate will live in and work 4 x 24 hour day each 4 week period (set days to be discussed). The client mostly sleeps through the night, but the PA will need to have watchful rest and so responsibilities run overnight. The client has a neuro-developmental condition which means in short that she has limited walking skills and non-verbal communication. The client is extremely well balanced, happy and content - ' a loving presence' as her school teacher remarked in her end of school report. The client is helpful and supportive to all that happens around her and reacts reasonably well to spoken English, with some guidance. The duties will involve all aspects of daily care and will include social visits outside the home, including medical appointments, as and when required . Some beneficial and enjoyable therapeutic sporting activities are part of the client’s recreational needs, e.g swimming and horse riding for the disabled. The PA will be responsible for total involvement and care during these activities.
Daily care includes cooking, sufficient meal and drinks preparation to a high and relevant nutritional standard and maintaining high standards of hygiene, personal care, administering medication and companionship. You will be required to provide personal care at all times and be responsible for her physical wellbeing and safe mobility around the home and outdoors.
Duties will include dressing/clothing, bathing, toileting, assistance with mobility (the client can walk limited distances with close management), supporting at meal times the client self feeds and drinks with support). Domestic duties include laundry, changing bed linen as required, light domestic duties, hygienic cleaning. Relevant training will be identified and provided by the parents.
Ideally the candidate will have a good general education, experience of working as a carer or personal assistant and be fully committed to their professional vocation and forming a genuine, respectful and caring attachment to the client. Knowledge of disability issues are preferred, but not required and an understanding of the barriers which impact on daily life. They should be trustworthy, reliable, punctual, friendly, outgoing, patient and supportive, respectful of the client’s dignity and privacy and have an understanding of the confidential nature of the work.
The agreed rate of pay at £345.84 is on a 'per 24 hour day' basis with a changeover around 11:30am on the day of change. Further discussion around this will be included at interview. There may be an opportunity for further hours at £14.41 per hour. The successful candidate will be a careful car driver with access to a car, a full clean driving licence, business class insurance and valid MOT Certificate are required. Mileage allowance will be paid. Overnight accommodation is provided in the home.
There is a contributory pension scheme in place. Annual leave entitlement is calculated at 12.07% of hours worked. The parents are on hand for regular discussions on any issues arising. The successful person will be directly accountable to and take directions from the parents. Recent satisfactory references will be required, where appropriate including an Enhanced DBS check. This will be confidential and at no cost to yourself. Please be aware that confirmation of this appointment will be made on successful completion of a 6 month probationary period.
