Multi skilled Shop-floor Production Operative in a woodworking factory environment
We are a small manufacturing company based in Calne. We produce high quality commercial speaker cabinets for the music industry, and have been doing so since 1991.
We are a friendly, hard working team and our increasing workload means we need an extra pair of hands to help in many areas of production. This includes pre-assembly, sanding, filling, building cabinets and helping with finishing touches and despatch. This role would involve working in any and all areas of the production and finishing process, so a flexible working attitude is a must.
Main duties to include:
Pre-assembly: Fixing together wooden components, or the fitting of metal brackets, thread inserts, tee nuts etc. for building into speaker cabinets on final assembly.
Final Assembly: As part of a team you will complete the assembly of wooden speaker enclosures ready to go to the next stage of manufacture using wood glue, brads, staples and screws.
Hand sanding and filling: Finishing off the built cabinets by hand sanding to a smooth finish and using filler to fill any small gaps or holes.
Power Sanding: Power sanding cabinets to blend using various manual sanding machines.
Despatch - once the cabs are built and painted they move to the despatch area for quality checking, finishing touches such as touching up paint work, fitting castors, and loading on to our lorry ready for delivery.
Qualities/ Experience Required:
A positive, friendly, flexible attitude coupled with a strong work ethic is vital, as is manual dexterity and physical fitness (some lifting is involved).
An ability and willingness to learn are critical attributes we are looking for. It would be advantageous if you have experience in the assembly/ finishing of wooden type components (eg. Fitted kitchens, bedroom furniture etc.), however experience is not essential as full training will be provided.
The ability to read and understand to a basic level 2D assembly drawings would be useful.
Rate of pay:
The rate of pay is £14.00 per hour. This has the potential to increase up to £14.40 once you have learnt and become competent in more production processes.
There is also a company bonus scheme in place, dependent on overall company performance and is paid quarterly (if targets have been reached).
Hours of work:
40 hrs a week, Monday to Friday 8.00am – 4.30 pm. There is a paid 15 minute break at 10am and an unpaid 30 minute lunch break from 1pm – 1.30pm
