Chris The Crane & Son (C&S Transport) is a well-established specialist in lorry loader crane transport and lifting services. As our business continues to grow, we are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Assistant Depot Manager to support the day-to-day running of our transport operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong transport background who is passionate about compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the day-to-day management of the transport depot.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence undertakings, DVSA requirements, and transport legislation.
- Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) accreditation.
- Develop and maintain transport compliance systems, policies, and procedures.
- Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, MOTs, servicing, and defect reporting.
- Ensure drivers remain compliant with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph regulations, and licence checks.
- Support driver inductions, training, toolbox talks, and performance management.
- Assist with transport planning and daily operational requirements.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the business.
- Liaise professionally with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Produce compliance reports and maintain accurate transport records.
- Support the Depot Manager in achieving operational and business objectives.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience within the transport or logistics industry.
- Excellent knowledge of transport compliance and Operator Licence requirements.
- Good understanding of DVSA regulations and best practice.
- Experience working with or implementing FORS accreditation (Bronze, Silver or Gold).
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Transport Manager CPC qualification (or working towards).
- Experience within the lorry loader (HIAB) or crane transport sector.
- Knowledge of health and safety management systems.
- Experience with compliance auditing and continuous improvement.

Pay: £42,000.00 per year
