We fulfil our purpose by providing the people, buildings and services needed to support the judiciary, the courts, devolved tribunals and the office of the public guardian (OPG). Outline Of The Role & Projects in SCTS:
Make a Difference That Matters
At SCTS, your work goes far beyond delivering projects. Every initiative we lead has a direct impact on the people of Scotland, helping to create a justice system that is more accessible, responsive, efficient and compassionate. We work at the heart of justice transformation, bringing together policy, operational expertise, technology and service design to solve complex challenges that affect citizens, victims, witnesses, jurors and justice partners across the country.
Joining SCTS means becoming part of a team that is shaping the future of justice in Scotland. From delivering major digital and service transformation programmes to improving the experience of people engaging with the justice system, our work helps ensure that justice services meet the needs of modern society while maintaining fairness, transparency and public confidence.
Delivering Meaningful Change
Our portfolio includes some of the most significant transformation programmes within Scotland's justice sector. Through the Jury Transformation Programme, we are modernising how jurors interact with the court system, creating services that are simpler, more efficient and easier to access. Through our work supporting the development of the Sexual Offences Court, we are helping to deliver innovative approaches that place the needs of victims, witnesses and court users at the centre of service design and delivery.
Alongside these programmes, we play a key role in the wider modernisation of criminal justice services, working collaboratively across organisational boundaries to improve outcomes, remove barriers and create more seamless experiences for those who rely on the justice system. This is an opportunity to contribute to change that has a tangible and lasting impact on communities throughout Scotland.
A Person-Centred and Trauma-Informed Approach
Everything we do is guided by a commitment to person-centred design and trauma-informed practice. We recognise that many individuals who engage with the justice system may be experiencing trauma, vulnerability or significant life challenges. Our teams work to understand those experiences and design services that are respectful, inclusive and responsive to people's needs.
This approach ensures that technology and process improvements are never pursued for their own sake. Instead, they are developed to improve experiences, reduce unnecessary stress and create services that support better outcomes for everyone involved in the justice process. By placing people at the centre of our thinking, we deliver change that is both innovative and meaningful.

About SCTS
SCTS is committed to equality and diversity in employment and service delivery. The work of SCTS covers a broader range of issues than you may think. In providing support to Scotland’s courts, devolved tribunals and the OPG, we touch the lives of many people on a daily basis – be that through formal court or tribunal business, fulfilling your civic duty as a juror, paying fees or fines, seeking help in managing the affairs of an incapable adult or dealing with the estate of a loved one who has passed away. SCTS deals with over a quarter of a million cases and applications each year. Behind each one of these is an individual – looking to the system to help them assert their rights, address wrongs or provide support in a time of need. It is this work – which takes place every day in our courts, tribunals and administrative centres across Scotland – that consumes most of the time, energy and skill of our staff. We take pride in working as one team and providing high levels of service to all those who use the courts, tribunals and OPG.
The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service is exempt from the protections of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974). This permits us to ask applicants details of both spent and unspent convictions, along with details of any formal cautions that you may have. Individuals without existing security clearance will always be considered as all successful applicants will require a standard level Disclosure check completed before employment can commence.
Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service recruitment processes are underpinned by the recruitment principles of the Civil Service Commissioner, which outline that selection for appointment be made on merit on the basis of fair and open competition - Recruitment - Civil Service Commission (independent.gov.uk)
