Job Purpose
The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. The successful candidate will support the kitchen team by ensuring all equipment, utensils, crockery, and kitchen areas are kept clean and organised while complying with food hygiene and health and safety regulations.
Key ResponsibilitiesCleaning & Hygiene
- Wash pots, pans, utensils, crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment.
- Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen.
- Clean floors, walls, work surfaces, storage areas, refrigerators, and kitchen equipment.
- Empty rubbish bins and recycling containers regularly.
- Dispose of waste following company procedures.
Kitchen Support
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation when requested.
- Receive and correctly store deliveries.
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
- Keep storage rooms clean and organised.
- Ensure cleaning chemicals are stored safely.
Health & Safety
- Follow Food Safety and HACCP procedures at all times.
- Comply with Health & Safety legislation.
- Wear the required PPE and kitchen uniform.
- Report accidents, breakages, equipment faults, and hazards immediately.
- Assist during emergency procedures if required.
Teamwork
- Work closely with chefs and front-of-house staff.
- Maintain a positive attitude during busy service periods.
- Support colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Carry out any reasonable duties requested by management.
Essential Requirements
- Reliable and punctual.

- Able to lift and move kitchen equipment safely.
- Good understanding of hygiene and cleanliness.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter (preferred but not essential).
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (training can be provided).
- Experience working in a busy restaurant or hotel kitchen.
Working Hours
- Full-time or Part-time.
- Includes evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
