Fairley Gunn Group is looking for an experienced Senior Business Development Executive to generate profitable sales growth across Gilligan Engineering Services and NDT Electronic Services.
This is a hands on B2B sales role for somebody who enjoys creating opportunities, developing customer relationships and taking ownership of the complete commercial process.
You will work across two established specialist engineering businesses, selling a mix of technical products, services, equipment hire and wider customer solutions.
This is an individual contributor role with no people management responsibility. You will be expected to manage your own workload, build and progress your pipeline and follow opportunities through properly from initial contact to conclusion.
What you will be doing
- Generate new business through proactive prospecting and customer development
- Reactivate dormant customer relationships and identify new opportunities within existing accounts
- Understand customer requirements through effective questioning and consultative selling
- Recommend appropriate products, services, hire options or combined solutions
- Manage commercial opportunities from initial engagement through qualification, proposal, follow up, negotiation and handover
- Prepare, progress and proactively follow up quotations and proposals
- Conduct customer visits, product demonstrations and presentations
- Maintain an accurate and credible sales pipeline, CRM records and forecasts
- Work with technical colleagues where specialist expertise is required
- Develop productive relationships with key suppliers and product partners
- Apply sound commercial judgement to pricing, margin and negotiation
- Ensure won opportunities are handed over clearly to operational teams
What we are looking for
Essential
- Proven B2B sales experience
- A track record of personally generating new business, rather than solely managing an inherited customer base
- Experience developing existing accounts and identifying genuine additional opportunities
- Experience managing a sales pipeline and following opportunities through to conclusion
- Strong customer communication, questioning, presentation and relationship building skills
- Good commercial judgement, including an understanding of pricing, margin and negotiation
- Strong personal organisation and the ability to manage your own workload with limited day to day supervision
- A proactive approach and the discipline to complete agreed actions and customer follow up without repeated prompting
Desirable
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing, industrial equipment, instrumentation or technical services
- Experience of solution based or consultative selling
- Technical aptitude and the ability to learn products and applications quickly
- NDT or industrial radiography experience
What kind of person will suit this role?
You will be commercially curious, proactive and comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive.
You will take ownership of your workload, keep clear control of your pipeline and follow things through. You will be confident speaking with customers while also knowing when specialist technical input is needed.
We are looking for somebody who wants to build sustainable customer relationships and profitable business, rather than simply chase turnover.
Why join us?
You will have the opportunity to develop business across two established specialist engineering companies with a broad range of products, technical services and customer solutions.
You will work directly with experienced technical and operational colleagues and have genuine responsibility for developing your own opportunities and customer relationships.
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. The company is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
