The Handy Person Service is a busy team delivering Minor Adaptations to people in Calderdale including fitting key safes, grab rails, external handrails, stair rails, small paving works and other small works that are designed and installed to help people to live safely and independently in their homes. We have an emphasis on ensuring that our work is carried out to the highest standards and are delivered in a timely manner.
As demand for the service increases, with greater emphasis on reducing delayed transfer of care and hospital avoidance and to ensure our service is delivered efficiently and promptly we are looking to recruit an additional Minor Adaptations Technician to help deliver our service throughout Calderdale.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Installing minor adaptations in people’s homes. This is mainly grab rails, stair rails and keysafes but may involve other minor adaptations as the service requires.
- Feeding back to referrers where required
- Trusted Assessor trained employees will also assess for small additional minor adaptations that may be required.
- Assess where works need to be sent to external contractors
- Ensure all works are carried out in line with Health and Safety legislation and Council policies.
- You will drive a Council van (either diesel or electric) to carry out all works.
What are we looking for?
- You have experience of working on domestic properties with a wide range of experience in small construction and joinery works.
- You are experienced in the use of small hand and power tools such as drills, saws, planers etc.
- You have a basic level of computer literacy.
- You can work flexibly with a willingness to do evening, weekend and on-call work if needed.
- You understand Health & Safety Regulations
- You are passionate about providing excellent customer service.
- You are willing to complete additional training as required, eg. Trusted Assessor training
- You are able lift heavy items within safe manual handling guidelines (concrete flags, bags of sand and cement etc.), to work in confined spaces and at height.
