Job Description
We are recruiting an experienced Assistant Workshop Manager to support the daily operations of a busy HGV workshop in Glasgow. This role suits an experienced HGV Technician, Workshop Controller, or Workshop Supervisor looking to step into a leadership position while remaining involved in hands‑on workshop activity.
You will work closely with the Workshop Manager to maintain productivity, ensure compliance, and deliver a high standard of customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop coordination — Assist with daily planning, job allocation, and workflow management
- Technical support — Provide guidance to technicians and support complex mechanical diagnostics
- Customer communication — Deliver clear updates and maintain strong customer relationships
- Compliance & safety — Ensure VOSA standards, accurate documentation, and full workshop H&S compliance
- Parts & job control — Support parts ordering, job card accuracy, and cost control
- Team leadership — Motivate technicians and encourage continuous improvement
- Quality assurance — Maintain high repair standards and assist with KPI tracking
Requirements
- Background as an HGV Technician, Workshop Controller, Foreman, or Assistant Manager
- Strong understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance and workshop processes
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to lead, support, and motivate a team
- Good IT skills and familiarity with workshop systems
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of R2C, Kerridge, or similar workshop management systems
- Previous supervisory experience within an HGV environment
