Relief Cook – Job Description
Location: The Bancroft Position: Relief Cook (Holiday Cover)Hours: Part-time / Bank / Holiday Cover Minimum shifts of 7.5 hours, including weekends and bank holidays as required.

We are currently looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Relief Cook to cover staff holidays and support our kitchen team when required.
Principal Responsibilities
- Carry out all catering duties within the home to the highest possible standards.
- Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, stored, and presented in accordance with food hygiene regulations and company policies.
- Cater for residents’ individual dietary, religious, cultural, medical, liquid diet, and special nutritional needs.
- Provide residents with choice and variety at every mealtime.
- Complete and display the daily menu board in the dining room.
- Present food in an attractive and appealing manner.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen, equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
- Complete and sign daily cleaning schedules and rotas.
- Follow all food hygiene procedures and complete the Safer Food Better Business documentation.
- Wear appropriate PPE including chef whites, hats, gloves, and ensure hair is tied back appropriately.
- Record and monitor food temperatures daily and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain records of all meals served.
- Order food supplies as required and maintain stock control.
- Check and maintain stock levels for the kitchen first aid box.
- Ensure kitchen doors remain closed and fly screens are used appropriately when windows are open.
- Report any faulty equipment, hazards, or health and safety concerns to the Manager immediately.
- Ensure spillages and hazards are dealt with promptly to minimise risks.
- Follow and reinforce good hygiene and health education practices.
- Attend all mandatory training sessions, including food hygiene training and annual refresher courses.
- Familiarise yourself with COSHH regulations and complete yearly training requirements.
- Attend relevant staff and resident meetings when required.
- Carry out additional duties requested by senior staff members where appropriate.

- Adhere to Health & Safety at Work regulations.
- Ensure all food is prepared and served in accordance with:
- Food Safety Act 1990
- Food Hygiene Regulations
- Food Safety (Temperature Control) Regulations
Person Specification
Essential:
- Previous cooking or catering experience.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Reliable, flexible, and caring attitude.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a care home environment.
- Food Hygiene Certificate. Level 2
- Understanding of specialist diets and nutrition for older adults and people living with dementia.
