Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and vigilant Part-time Duty Night Manager to have full operational and safety responsibility for the events centre during evening and night operations. This is a senior, hands-on role: you will be the most senior person on-site for the duration of your shift, with accountability for the safety, security, and smooth running of the building, its events, its staff, and its customers.
You will work with the stewarding and security teams, oversee bar operations, and act as the on-site decision-maker for incidents, emergencies, and customer welfare.
Responsibilities
Operational management
- Take full charge of the centre during evening/night shifts, ensuring events run safely, smoothly and to schedule
- Act as the senior on-site point of contact and decision-maker for all operational matters, including emergencies
- Open and/or secure the building as required, including end-of-night lockdown and handover procedures
- Liaise with event organisers, promoters and hirers to ensure their requirements are met safely and professionally
- Oversee post-event clear down, ensuring the venue is left clean, safe and secure
- Oversee room flips, managing staff and timescales to reconfigure spaces ready for the next day's event
- Plan and coordinate clear down and turnaround with staff and any overnight contractors to meet next-day setup deadlines
- Carry out a final walk-round and handover to the day team, flagging any outstanding issues or setup requirements
Health, safety and licensing
- Act as the centre's Fire Marshal on shift: lead evacuation procedures, maintain fire safety checks and records
- Act as a qualified First Aider, providing or coordinating first aid response until further help arrives if needed
- Ensure compliance with licensing conditions, capacity limits, and health and safety legislation at all times
- Complete incident reports, accident records and safety checks accurately and promptly
- Hold and exercise authority to stop an event, refuse entry, or evacuate the venue where safety requires it
Staff management
- Work with stewards and security personnel to ensure smooth running and communication at events oversee bar staff on shift alongside the bar manager.
- Allocate duties, monitor performance, and provide clear direction under pressure
- Handle staff issues arising on shift professionally, escalating to senior management where appropriate
- Support the training and development of front-line staff. in safety and customer-facing procedures
Bar and customer operations
- Work with the bar manager to oversee bar service to oversee licensing compliance during the shift
- Manage customer welfare throughout the night, including dealing calmly and professionally with customers
- Make sound, defensible decisions on refusal of service, removal from premises, and involvement of security or emergency services
- Maintain a visible, approachable and authoritative presence throughout the venue
Requirements
- Proven experience in surveillance, loss prevention, or security roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of CCTV systems and other security technology is essential.
- First aid certification or willingness to obtain training is highly desirable.
- Fire Marshall certificate or willingness to obtain training is highly desireable.
- Strong observational skills with attention to detail in identifying potential risks or irregularities.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively during emergencies.
- Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to maintain accurate records.
- Flexibility to work during overnight hours on a part-time basis, including weekends if necessary.
- Must be trustworthy with a responsible attitude towards safeguarding assets and people.
