Farm overview
The farm consists of 740 acres of land which supports 320 organic cows and 200 followers on an autumn block calving system with milk being sold to organic herd.
Job Purpose
To ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, and productivity by carrying out the day-to-day care of the herd while maintaining excellent hygiene, health, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the health and welfare of the dairy herd daily.
- Identify and treat sick or injured animals, reporting concerns promptly.
- Detect cows in heat and assist with breeding programmes.
- Carry out or assist with calving, including care of newborn calves.
- Administer medicines in accordance with farm protocols and veterinary guidance.
- Maintain accurate animal health and treatment records.
- Carry out milking routines efficiently and consistently.
- Maintain high standards of parlour hygiene and milk quality.
- Monitor milk yields and identify cows with mastitis or other health issues.
- Ensure all milking equipment is cleaned and operating correctly.
- Assist with calf rearing and young stock management.
- Operating Quad bike, loaders, and other farm machinery safely (where qualified).
- Carry out routine maintenance and cleanliness of buildings, equipment, and livestock housing.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working with dairy cattle.
- Good stockmanship and a genuine passion for animal Health.
- Ability to recognise health and fertility issues.
- Good communication and teamwork.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Reliable, flexible, and willing to work weekends on a rota.
