The Role
As Transport Manager you are responsible for the effective, safe, and compliant management of the company’s transport operations. This includes overseeing vehicles, drivers, scheduling, compliance with transport legislation, and ensuring efficient delivery of services while maintaining high safety and customer service standards.
Duties Include:
· Oversee the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of fleet vehicles.
· Develop and implement fleet management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
· Monitor vehicle performance, maintenance schedules, and usage to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
· Manage day-to-day transport operations, including vehicle scheduling and route planning
· Ensure full compliance with all relevant transport legislation (e.g. Operator’s Licence, driver hours, tachographs, vehicle maintenance)
· Oversee driver recruitment, training, performance management, and discipline
· Monitor and manage fleet maintenance, inspections, and defect reporting
· Ensure health and safety standards are met across all transport activities
· Control transport costs, including fuel usage, maintenance, and subcontractors
· Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and infringements
· Liaise with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies as required
· Maintain accurate records and produce reports on transport performance
· Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, compliance, and service quality
What is expected of you
· Level 3 transport manager CPC
· Strong knowledge of transport legislation and compliance requirements
· Excellent organisational and planning skills
· Strong leadership and people management ability
· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
· Good communication and problem-solving skills
· Competent with transport management systems and Microsoft Office
· Proven experience in a transport management role
· Experience managing drivers and vehicle fleets
