Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled HGV/Sweeper Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles and sweeper equipment to ensure optimal operational performance. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong mechanical background and a passion for vehicle maintenance. The position is paid and requires a proactive approach to safety and efficiency.
Duties
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and sweeper machinery
- Diagnose mechanical faults using specialised tools and diagnostic equipment
- Repair or replace faulty components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs, servicing, and parts used
- Assist in the installation of new equipment and upgrades as required
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company standards
- Support the emergency repair team during breakdowns to minimise downtime
- Keep the workshop clean, organised, and safe at all times
Requirements
- Proven experience as a heavy vehicle mechanic or similar role specialising in HGVs and sweepers
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical diagnostics
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Good organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- A valid driving licence suitable for operating heavy vehicles is desirable but not essential
