Job Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and motivate the Fleet and Compliance team to deliver high-quality services
- Ensure the team operates in line with Council policies, statutory requirements and legal obligations
- Promote employee wellbeing, engagement and continuous improvement
- Manage financial, physical and operational resources effectively
- Develop workforce plans and support succession planning
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Advise and communicate with senior managers and elected members
- Review, develop and implement service policies, procedures and working practices
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and service performance
- Support innovation and encourage the team to adopt new ways of working
- Plan and prioritise team workloads to meet service objectives
- Provide professional guidance, coaching and development for team members
- Monitor performance and ensure service standards are achieved
- Represent the Council professionally and help manage operational risks
- Deputise for senior managers, including the Head of Service, Deputy Director or Director, when required
- Contribute to the Council's wider management team and corporate objectives
Person Specification
Must-Have Requirements
- Previous experience managing teams within a fleet, compliance, facilities or similar operational environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Experience managing budgets and operational resources
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety, statutory and legal compliance requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to develop and improve services, systems and working practices
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience monitoring performance and delivering continuous improvement
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector organisation
- Experience developing policies and operational procedures
- Experience contributing to strategic planning and organisational change
- Previous experience deputising for senior managers
