Commercial Buyer – Non-Ferrous Metals (Midlands)About City Metals Recycling
City Metals Recycling is an established metal recycling business specialising in the purchase, processing and supply of non-ferrous and ferrous scrap metals. Operating across multiple UK sites, we work with manufacturers, demolition contractors, waste management companies, local authorities and independent scrap merchants to provide reliable recycling solutions and high-quality recycled raw materials to customers in the UK and overseas.
As our non-ferrous division continues to expand, we're looking for an ambitious Commercial Buyer to help drive the next stage of our growth across the Midlands.
The Role
This isn't a role for someone who wants to simply manage existing accounts.
We're looking for a hungry, commercially driven buyer who enjoys winning new business, building lasting relationships and finding opportunities where others don't. Someone who thrives on being out in the market, opening new doors, negotiating deals and growing their own portfolio.
Based in the Midlands, you'll be responsible for sourcing and purchasing non-ferrous scrap metals for our Midlands operation. You'll have the autonomy to develop your territory, build long-term supplier partnerships and make a genuine impact on the growth of the business.
If you're motivated by results, enjoy the challenge of closing deals and want the freedom to build something, we'd like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and grow a strong network of non-ferrous scrap suppliers throughout the Midlands.
- Identify, pursue and convert new purchasing opportunities across the region.
- Purchase non-ferrous metals including with a focus on aluminium and other specialist grades.
- Negotiate commercially competitive prices and long-term supply agreements.
- Visit suppliers to assess material quality, volumes and collection requirements.
- Build trusted, long-term relationships with suppliers by providing excellent service and market knowledge.
- Monitor commodity markets, pricing trends and competitor activity to identify commercial opportunities.
- Work closely with operations and transport teams to ensure efficient collections and excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and customer information.
- Consistently achieve purchasing targets and contribute to the continued growth of the non-ferrous business.
Who We're Looking For
We're interested in attitude just as much as experience.
You'll be a self-starter who doesn't need to be micromanaged. Someone who is naturally curious, competitive and motivated to succeed. You'll enjoy being on the road, meeting customers, uncovering opportunities and building a profitable portfolio.
The right person will be commercially minded, resilient and willing to go the extra mile to win business.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience purchasing non-ferrous scrap metals.
- Strong understanding of non-ferrous metal grades, specifications, pricing and market dynamics.
- Existing network within the non-ferrous recycling, manufacturing, demolition or waste sectors.

- A proactive, self-motivated approach with the drive to continually generate new business.
- Commercial awareness and strong decision-making ability.
- Comfortable managing your own territory with minimal supervision.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the Midlands.
Desirable
- Existing portfolio of active non-ferrous suppliers.
- Experience within metal recycling, commodity trading or a similar commercially driven environment.
- Knowledge of environmental and waste compliance relating to metal recycling.
- Experience using CRM or purchasing management systems.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary.
- Company car or car allowance.

- Mobile phone and laptop.
- Ongoing training and career development.
- A high degree of autonomy with the opportunity to make a genuine commercial impact.
- The chance to help shape and grow one of the UK's most ambitious non-ferrous recycling businesses.
