Clinical Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Cardiff Veterinary Centre
We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our team as Clinical Lead RVN.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an RVN who enjoys being hands-on clinically, supporting colleagues and helping to create a positive, well-organised and high-standard clinical environment.
You’ll play an important role in leading the nursing team on shift, supporting our vets and ensuring our patients receive the very best care throughout their journey with us.
About the Role
As our Clinical Lead RVN, you’ll be a senior point of contact within the practice and will help coordinate the clinical team throughout the day.
You’ll be involved in both hands-on nursing and clinical leadership, making this a varied role where no two days are quite the same.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the senior clinical point of contact during allocated shifts.
- Supporting and coordinating the nursing and clinical teams to ensure the smooth running of the day.
- Helping to allocate patients, workloads and clinical resources appropriately.
- Providing support, guidance and encouragement to colleagues.
- Working closely with our veterinary surgeons, RVNs, SVNs and Patient Care Assistants.
- Providing excellent, compassionate and safe patient care.
- Supporting emergency and critical care cases.
- Participating in patient admissions, monitoring and discharge.
- Developing and reviewing appropriate nursing care plans.
- Maintaining high standards of clinical nursing and patient care.
- Promoting excellent infection prevention and control standards.
- Supporting medicines management and compliance with practice protocols.
- Helping to maintain a safe, clean and well-organised clinical environment.
- Acting as a positive role model for professionalism, teamwork and clinical excellence.
- Supporting colleagues with their development through mentoring, coaching and practical training.
- Helping with the induction and onboarding of new team members.
- Encouraging and supporting CPD and evidence-based veterinary nursing.
- Sharing knowledge and learning with the wider clinical team.
- Supporting clinical audits, quality improvement projects and clinical governance.
- Contributing to the development and review of clinical protocols and procedures.
- Escalating clinical, operational or staffing concerns appropriately.
- Supporting a positive culture of learning, teamwork and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is confident clinically but also enjoys working with and supporting other people.
You’ll ideally have:
- RCVS registration as a Veterinary Nurse.
- Strong clinical nursing experience.
- Previous experience in a Senior RVN, Clinical Lead or supervisory position.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A supportive and approachable leadership style.
- The ability to mentor, coach and encourage colleagues.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A genuine commitment to patient care and clinical excellence.
- An interest in evidence-based veterinary nursing and CPD.
- The confidence to make decisions and take responsibility when required.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to get stuck in and support the team.
Experience or qualifications in clinical coaching, advanced nursing, quality improvement or referral/hospital nursing would be advantageous, but we’re also interested in hearing from experienced RVNs who are ready to take the next step in their career.
Why Join Us?
This role is ideal for someone who wants to progress their career while remaining actively involved in clinical nursing.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Take an active leadership role within our nursing team.
- Support and develop other members of the clinical team.
- Help shape and improve clinical standards within the practice.
- Develop your own leadership and management skills.
- Be involved in CPD, clinical governance and quality improvement.
- Work collaboratively with our veterinary and support teams.
- Make a real difference to the experience of both our patients and their owners.

We want our team to feel valued, supported and rewarded, so we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
- VDS fees paid
- RCVS registration fees paid
- 3 days paid CPD leave per year
- £1,000 genuine CPD allowance per annum – we see CPD as an investment in our people as well as the practice, and are keen to support RVNs who wish to study towards certificate qualifications.

- Paid lunch breaks – we believe you should have proper time to switch off during your working day.
- Gym membership

We’re committed to investing in our team, supporting professional development and creating a workplace where our people can enjoy a long and rewarding career.
We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of the team, not simply someone who is there to manage it. We value approachable leadership, good communication, teamwork and a willingness to support each other.
If you’re an experienced RVN looking for your next challenge and would enjoy taking on a leadership role within a friendly clinical team, we’d love to hear from you.
