Role purpose
The Sous Chef supports the Head Chef in delivering consistently high-quality food across the pub, restaurant, weddings and events. The role combines hands-on cooking, maintaining standards and helping to ensure a smooth, efficient service.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes to the agreed recipes, presentation and portion standards.
- Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
- Supervise and support chefs, kitchen assistants and kitchen porters.
- Maintain consistent food quality across breakfast, lunch, dinner, functions and events.
- Assist with menu development, daily specials and seasonal dishes.
- Monitor stock, minimise waste and support food-cost controls.
- Complete ordering, stock rotation and deliveries when delegated.
- Ensure all food safety, allergen, hygiene and cleaning procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate temperature, cleaning and food-safety records.
- Help train and develop junior members of the kitchen team.
- Deputise for the Head when required.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house and events teams.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional kitchen environment.
Skills and experience
- Previous experience as a Senior CDP or Junior Sous Chef in a quality hospitality operation.
- Strong practical cooking skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations.
- Good understanding of food safety, allergens and kitchen hygiene.
- Able to remain organised and maintain standards during busy services.
- Positive leadership style and willingness to support developing team members.
- Reliable, flexible and comfortable working evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
- A relevant food-hygiene qualification is desirable.

Working pattern: Full-time, working five days over seven according to business requirements.
