Barnardo’s **Community Development volunteers** help develop networks within the local community, building partnerships with organisations such as schools, clubs, societies and groups. They also assist with organising, hosting and attending variety of events. **Enabling Community Health Outcomes** You will be supporting a small, dedicated team who are passionate about making a meaningful impact in the community. We’re looking for volunteers who: - Are aged 13-19, or up to 25 if you have a special educational need or disability - Can volunteer daytime or early evening hours (Monday to Friday) or Saturdays - Willing to complete a DBS check (ages 16+ only) We are especially keen to engage Tower Hamlets residents in our services volunteering opportunities - from the community, for the community. We believe that young people are the experts in their own health. The "You're Welcome" accreditation ensures that health & care services and spaces are young person-friendly, accessible, and tailored to their needs. It focuses on creating supportive environments where young people feel respected, confident, and safe when accessing health & care services, and are encouraged to seek care. This programme is currently being redesigned to better suit the needs of the community. Part of the volunteering role will involve supporting and implementing the redesign. As a You’re Welcome Assessor, activities will include: - Visiting health, care and youth spaces as a mystery shopper - Assessing health, care and youth spaces against the accreditation - Feeding back to the You're Welcome coordinator - Attending quarterly panel meetings - Maintaining confidentiality - Representing the service in a positive and professional way - Following health & safety and safeguarding procedures
Are you great at developing networks, talking to people, finding out about their organisation and sharing information about ours? Could you link with schools, clubs, societies and groups in the local area?
Tasks: Developing networks in the local community, with organisations such as schools, clubs, societies and groups.
Assisting with organising events. This might include sending out invitations, monitoring replies, making arrangements for the event and attending events on the day.
Adhering to Barnardo's policies and procedures at all times, including Barnardo's: Safeguarding; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Health & Safety; Data Protection; Confidentiality; Recording policies and procedures.
Participating fully in training and supervision.
Volunteering within Barnardo's Values and Behaviours.
Skills: Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
Approachable and welcoming.
Passion, enthusiasm, compassion, understanding and having an open minded approach.
The ability to work independently and use their own initiative, as well as working as part of a team.
Having some knowledge with Community Development or working in communities would be useful, but not essential.
