Role Purpose
The Support Worker/ Mentor will provide high-quality, person-centred support to young people living in a semi-independent setting, promoting independence, life skills, and positive outcomes. The role includes leading shifts, supporting staff, and acting as a key link between young people, the management team, and external professionals. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work across a Residential and Semi-Independent care home setting.
Key Responsibilities
Young People Support
- Support young people to develop independent living skills including budgeting, cooking, cleaning, and tenancy readiness
- Promote education, employment, and training (EET) outcomes
- Support young people with appointments, meetings, and community engagement
- Encourage positive routines, boundaries, and healthy decision-making
- Act as a key worker for allocated young people
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Promote the safeguarding and welfare of all young people
- Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, missing episodes, and risk behaviours
- Follow safeguarding policies and local authority protocols
- Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model
Care Planning & Documentation
- Support the implementation and review of support plans and risk assessments
- Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping, including daily logs and incident reports
- Contribute to reviews, pathway plans, and multi-agency meetings
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive living environment
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed
- Support compliance with local authority standards and regulations for semi-independent provision

Essential Criteria
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience working with young people in care or semi-independent settings
- Experience supporting young people aged 11–18 (or up to 21)
- Desirable to have worked with challenging children aged ( 11-18)
- Good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and contextual safeguarding
- Ability to lead shifts and support junior staff
- Strong communication and report-writing skills
- Willingness to work flexible shifts & across Residential and Semi independent Settings
Desirable Criteria
- Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People or equivalent
- Experience working with looked-after children, care leavers, or UASC
- Knowledge of local authority standards for semi-independent provision
- Full UK driving licence
