Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Day Driver to join our logistics team. The successful candidate will collect containers from the port, freight from our customers in Felixstowe and Ipswich plus delivering freight into one of three pallet networks. This role is vital in maintaining smooth operations and timely collections from our customers. The ideal applicant will possess a strong understanding of commercial driving procedures and have prior experience in delivery and driving roles.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate 44t lorries and other commercial vehicles within the company premises and designated routes.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring items are secured correctly for transit.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before shifts, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle movements and deliveries in accordance with company policies.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations at all times during operations.
- Support the wider logistics team with additional duties as required to ensure operational efficiency.
Skills
- Proven experience in driving commercial vehicles, particularly skeleton, curtainsiders and double decker trailers or similar equipment.
- Strong understanding of safe driving practices and traffic regulations relevant to commercial vehicles.
- Previous delivery driver experience is highly desirable, demonstrating reliability and punctuality.
- Excellent manoeuvring skills, with the ability to operate within tight spaces safely.
- Organised with good attention to detail for record keeping and vehicle inspections.
- Ability to work independently while following safety protocols diligently.
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and warehouse staff. This role offers a vital contribution to our logistics operations, requiring a dedicated professional committed to safety, efficiency, and reliability in every task undertaken.
